Tell me what you want to know!

When I started this blog, it was only for school and I was told what to write about. Now I have found I kind of enjoy it. The hardest part is thinking of things that are interesting to everyone.

My family is going to LA after Christmas to visit family and go to Disneyland. Im thinking of posting pictures. I know this is a rediculously short blog. Star Wars just came out and I cant wait to see it.

I hope you all have an amazing Christmas!! God Bless

YAY! Volunteering!!

Paying jobs are very hard to find, everyone needs money for food, clothes and gifts for birthdays and christmas. There are many different positions that lots of people will do anything to get. College degrees, internships and even starting family businesses. Im in college right now, I know I need this degree and I will need a job, if I want to have a family and pay all my medical bills. BUT I won't let the worry of no job consume me, I have found a passion in volunteering. There are many businesses that people may not know NEED volunteers so they can help others and make a big difference in our community.

The difference between paying and non paying is your job descriptions.
If you are working for a company you will, most of the time, get a Specific "Job Description". It tells you what your specific job entails and how many hours you will spend doing it. Thats all great, I can NOT wait to get a job. I want to be in charge of a job and make money doing it.
Volunteering you won't necessarily get a list of jobs you will do, but maybe what you can do and sometimes there is no "list".

If you would like to see where you can work and how to help, heres a list of some Organizations

What I love the most about volunteering is the people I get to work with. I have met so many amazing actors, directors and crew members and I very much consider them my family.
The other reason is there really no limits. Yes I have physical limits, being in a wheelchair. It doesn't mean I can't help. No set of stairs or skinny doorways will discourage me from doing what I can.

If you think you have any time to volunteer, DO IT!!!! It will change your life, and possibly others. You will never know what a small act will do.
When you do go in, you shouldn't say what you want to do. Ask

Music Influences

Topic 1
I have had music around me since I was in the womb. I was in cello lessons at 3 years old. I was in string music camp at about 5 years old. My Grandpa (Moms dad) did operas since I was about 6, He introduced me to theater and singing.

My Grandpa (Dads Dad) was very careful what music was on around his family. He had christian CDs everywhere. Every truck he drove had both a christian worship CD and an Audio Bible. He was not really into Rock n' Roll or Heavy Metal unless he knew someone playing it because most of his friends were christians. He didn't like Dark music because it sounded like it could be worship in another religion. He was an amazing grandpa and person all around, He just had his beliefs. He came to all the concerts or recitals my mom and I were playing in, or at least he tried. I was fine with it personally, because Im not into many types of music. Im kind of picky, Jazz and Rock are my least favorite. I used to love classical music but It just barely makes my top six now.

My 5 favorite genres of music are Disney, christian, musicals, country and voice
Here is a complete list of Genres  except christian and musicals. I would think Disney would be everyones favorite. I don't really have any favorite bands.I have favorite singers like Donny Osmond and the Vocal groups VoicePlay and Rezonate.

Topic 2

I think LBCC should have a couple campus radios. I think its possible, there are many places to produce it The First one type I would recommend is a Pandora formatted radio just for any music made on campus now and in the past. I know that when we have choir concerts, there is usually a long line to get tickets and many people won't get in. Getting a CD later is possible but its still pretty pricey. I also like the ability to choose what you like to listened to, and if the school does a musical they could record the songs from the show live then edit them like a soundtrack.

The other should be a station for interviews. LBCC has an art gallery, sports teams, music and theater department. There are many talented people and groups that should be featured. I think its also another great way to advertise coming events. I think our school could use part of all ticket sales from performances, games and food sales to support both radios. The Concerts are always sold out and the games are well attended.

LBCC would become an even bigger hit as a college than it already, Let me know what you think about this.

Books

Hi my name is Rose, and I don't like reading books.

Its true, there are not many books I have read. Almost every book I have ever read has put me to sleep and I have a really hard time remembering what I read. When I was little my Mom would try to have me read for about an hour every day. There was only two book series that I would pick. Wishbone, it was one of my favorite shows on PBS so it was like reading an episode, but still not the same. The other series was... Captian Underpants!! Those books had some great pictures to go along with the story. Both series books were pretty short. Sometimes I could finish a book in a couple days. The problem with only liking these series is, pretty soon I was just skiming the words because I got so bored of constantly reading them.

I didn't know that books have been banned until this class, and even though I dont read them I dont think they should be banned. If they are banned, how can they become great movies or plays. I also know that even if I don't read there are plent people who love reading books and prefer books than movies or TV shows. It is also important for kids to read. Maybe not "50 Shades of Grey" but if a child loved the Harry Potter movies they may enjoy the books.

Looking at the latest banned/challenged books on the American Library Association website, i'm surprised to see some names on the list. "Captain Underpants" is such a cute series, and the author and artist created the funnest villains. I mean a Turbo Toilet 2000, a toilet that eats people, thats pretty creative. I have read "To Kill a Mocking Bird" for a class in high school. I don't remember much, I had to read it pretty fast to keep up with the class. I tried to read "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" but I was so confused by the first chapter I gave up. I only recognize the names "A Wrinkle in Time" and "Goosebumps" because they are names of movies.

I don't really have a "book shelf", I used too. Its now in my parents house, I have a "movie shelf". Whenever I can I watch the behind the scenes of all my movies. Even if I have seen all of them 10 times, Its a learning experience for me.

Topic 2

I agree with Jeff Jarvis that students should study Media History. Looking at the history of how information and new ideas were spread. Its like History, english, and media all in one class. Disrupting Journalism.

He also made a good point saying that maybe we shouldn't push our youth to go to college so soon. College is available for anyone past high school. I honestly didn't want to go to college to party or socialize. I just want a degree so I am able to get a good job.
Hacking Education

I have a few ideas for how I would "fix" college.

First of all, I would give students the choice of classes for their degrees. You know how we get a list of classes required for our degrees? Like your required to take a certain level of math, reading and writing. I think we should just get a number of credits we need and we choose our classes. Now before you skip ahead because I may be crazy, hear me out.
I am a communications major, what class other than Miming doesn't use communications skills? I take choir as a fun class, not for a grade because it isn't part of my degree. I took an extra public speaking class just for fun and those credits didn't count. I think the schools could suggest classes so you know whats out there, but if we could choose our classes we might learn something from classes we are really interested in. Learning is still happening no matter what classes we take. I didn't need to learn Addition, subtraction and multiplication all over again when I started college, it just slowed me down.

My second idea is, cut out the text books. They are heavy and in the way. They also can't be updated because its paper, not a memory stick. I think all textbooks should be apps that can be downloaded on iPads and iPhones. The school can still get money out of them and we only have to carry a binder to take notes or hold homework pages.

I know this a lot to read but I had a lot to say :-)

The Peanuts Movie
My review

I grew up reading the Peanuts comics and watching movies like "Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" or "Its Magic, Charlie Brown. They are still fun to watch and there is a movie for almost every holiday, I wasn't fond of the comics much, It was very short and left cliffhangers or had a joke I didn't find funny.

The Peanuts Movie was awesome, in my opinion. The animation was great, to see the character in 3D was amazing. I also loved seeing familiar the animation was. It wasn't so similar that it seemed like they copied everything.

I love how they put in some of the comics hand drawn animation in different scenes. It was a very nice homage to the comics. Especially since the Authors son worked on this film.

don't want to give the story away because this movie so new, I don't want to ruin the experience but I will say, we FINALLY get to hear the little red haired girl talk.

Here is the Full Cast List on IMDB.
I only recognized 3 names in this cast. Francesca Capaldi from Disney Channels "Dog with a Blog." It was one of my favorite shows. I also recognized Kristen Chenoweth from well... almost everything on broadway, but most recently in "Descendants" also on Disney Channel.
I have seen other peoples reviews, RottenTomatoes gave it a 7/10 saying:

"The Peanuts Movie offers a colorful gateway into the world of its classic characters and a sweetly nostalgic -- if relatively unambitious -- treat for the adults who grew up with them."

The Peanuts Movie raised $45.0 Million dollars, and was rated #2 on the "Top Box Office" list.

My mom says saw the movie with me. Her parents nicknamed her peanuts, because of there love for the comics, and books.
Mom says "I have read all the books since a child, and from what I learned from the books. The essence of Peanuts is there is no moral to the story, In Peanuts a Childs voice is the conduit for grown up Ideas and situations. and in those situations there is never a totally happy ending to any story, That is the essence of Peanuts. The Peanuts Movie was a movie made by movie makers, not by the true writer of Peanuts."

Everyone has their own view of the movie and they are all valid, but what you think of it matters most. I try not to rate a movie on others reviews. I highly recommend this and I think you could bring your kids with you. Its a very cute movie
I feel this Movie has brought the comics to life and is an amazing movie. I would recommend every family see this, but first show your kids the comics. Then they will know who the heck Charlie Brown is, they will love him.

GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!

Getting the News Out

I have looked at newspapers, read articles about parades, theater reviews and the war. It was very confusing. The stories never just took over one full page. Half of a story starts on  page 1 then jumps to page 4. A theater review would start on page 2 then also jumps to page 4. WHY?? It was like trying to read a story printed on a Rubik's cube, or find an exit on a highway with no GPS and name tag sized signs. The instruction was easy to miss.  I found that I lost interest very quickly. Im sure they were easier to read before they went from page to packet. I do like the single pages of lost and found, Obituaries and local Churches.

My first suggestion to fix this is to put one story to a page, it would be nice to read it like a book, not broken up. I like that it is rolled up the way it is, very creative.

My other suggestion would be to include any conversations or discussions that people have started when the news first came out. It would give another side or maybe answer questions reader have. Twitter is one of the first places people will learn the news. I would think that there would be some interesting comments to put in the paper for those who don't use Twitter or FB.

Topic 2

After looking through weeks of papers, we (my mom and I) had found that the topics that is most important but hasn't been touched on much is the hurricane in Mexico and the supposed earthquake that is supposed to hit our coast and supposedly wipe us out.

Front page Oct 27th
The article in the Albany Democrat Herald says
Article #2 Tsumani-vulnerable towns grapple with saving lives.
Cascadia subduction zone
600 mile long fault
hasn't quaked since 1700

There is also an article in the Oregon quarterly magazine of the UofO alumni, written in the summer of 2015. Its about geophysicists who are studying the Cascadia subduction zone. They say that their latest results should be available soon. They say we need an early warning system, The paper says we should get tsunami towers.

Overall, I am not impressed by how little they talk about a deadly storm. Its like they are saying, we might die from this so, theres nothing left to talk about. No offense. This is just my take, but Im not a professional journalist, so what do I know lol!

The First Amendment

First Amendment
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

As much as I LOVE theater, I don't like seeing when critiques say a show is the best show to hit a stage or "The funniest musical comedy in 400 years", as the say in this video. I mean no offense to this show or to the reviewer.
It may be funny and will bring big audiences in, but I think its a matter of how the audience feels after seeing it. I think critiques are supposed to say a show is amazing. If they didn't they would be questioned about why, and the review may not be shown. No one wants a negative review, in fear of losing money or trust from regulars. Again Im not saying that the show isn't great, because I haven't seen it. I just feel that they sometimes take it too far, especially saying what was said in this promo.

I am happy that they, so far, have left out names of actors in some reviews. Actors and show reviews should be separate, in my opinion. A show is planned, written, produced and staged, once it opens its not likely to be rewritten, although that has happened. An actors performance may be blocked (where to stand on what line) but the way the lines are said or the way they show emotions may vary from night to night. It wouldn't be fair to critique someone with a show, The performers may be AMAZING but a show was difficult to watch for whatever reason.

So in conclusion, reviewers should say, "its my opinion..."  before they say how fantastic, wonderful, amazing, inspiring or breath taking a show is. Its a matter of opinion, not a scientific fact.

Looking at another students take on this, I agreed with him saying: Brians Blog

"I agree that Celebs should have the right to say go away their request should be granted. I feel though that they kind of give up that right a little when they punch or hurt reporters and don't apologize. It just gives the press or paparazzi more to write about them and hurts their reputation. The problem is the Celebs actions, not what the press writes."
check out the rest of my class mates to see what their take was.
Here is a General link that list their blogs.

JN201-Media & Society - Fall 2015

Rip! A Remix Manifesto

1. Culture always builds on the past
2. The past always tries to control the future
3. Our future is becoming less free
4. To build free societies you must limit the control of the past

After watching this film, its interesting to see how many copyright rules are being broken. Some how people can break laws and stay out of the radar. This makes me wonder, what isn't copyrighted. Listing the manifestosWorking on school work, I have used many pictures for class presentations that I couldn't otherwise get. If it weren't for "Fair Use" in schools, I would have owed lots of people about $10k+ just in Middle School and who knows how much in High school.
I could be charged for putting the list from the film on my blog like I have if I wasn't protected. I think everything should not be Copyrighted at all. Musicians or Bands get paid when their songs are even played in a movie or TV show. They make enough.

Modern Family

“She Crazy”
Full Episode
IMDB page

First aired on 10/14/15 at 9pm.
Genre: Comedy
Creators: Steven Levitan, Christopher Lloyd
Main Characters: Jay Pritchett (Ed O'Neill), Gloria Delgado-Pitchett (Sofia Vergara), Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen), Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell), Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet), Manny Delgado (Rico Rodriguez), Luke Dunphy (Nolan Gould), Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland), Lilly Tucker-Pritchett (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons)

This episode is new to me, but the show isn’t! I really like it. It gets kind of confusing when it switches around to different story lines. I sometimes forget where we are with each character. Its like having continuos cliff hangers, but its still a good show.

This episode is about 3 families that are all related, the Dunphy's, Pritchett's, and the Tucker-Pritchett's. The Dunphy's are debating whether 3 eggs Phil found a month prior are still alive. The Pritchett's are trying to overcome fears of talking either to famous people or cute girls. The Tucker-Pritchett's are trying to find themselves in the world and remember trust is important in a relationship

Break 1
*Galaxy S6 from Samsung * Jimmy Dean * Car Max * TJ Maxx * Fiber one Brownies * Burnt (movie) * Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown * Toy story of Terror * Dr. Ken*

Break 2
*Android * Marie Calendar * Pay less * Goosebumps (Movie) * Farmer Insurance * Goodness Knows bars * Power View * How to get away with Murder * Trillium * ToyotaCare * Trillium*

Break 3
*Surface book * PAM * Ford * Ford * Pantene * AT&T * Walmart * Blackish*

I feel the commercials fit with the show and both are aimed for an adult audiences. Kids don't worry about insurance, cars and fancy cloths.

Reviewers feel that this show in general "suffered from a lack of focus and attention to detail". I agree that it is a bit difficultt to follow but I got the hang of it.Other show now have started using the same editing and filming techniques. Like Liv and Maddie on the Disney Channel. They cut to a character talking to us, the viewers. It connects you more with the story and you almost feel you can talk back.
Most of the actors have Social Media now, the adults have more than the little kids from the show. People on Twitter are saying they loved this episode.
After seeing this episode I'm excited to see to see the next one. Tune in Every Wednesday On ABC.

1. Spina Bifida Awareness

October is Spina Bifida Awareness month, and the ribbon color is yellow. There is also have National Spina Bifida and hydrocephalus day, which is October 25. I bet most people didn't know that. Well, neither did I until last year, when it was too late. I also didn't know September was Hydrocephalus and Chiari Awareness month until today.

There is lots of ways that Social Media is showing awareness. There is Multiple Spina Bifida Awareness pages. One Specifically is titled Spina Bifida Awareness, Its a Non-Profit organization. It looks like a page where people can share their stories. Some of the stories may not be Spina Bifida but on other really important topics. They also have advertised fundraisers.

There are links and pictures on Twitter attached to #SpinaBifida

There is also an SBA Channel on youtube. SBA (Spina Bifida Association) is a website that gives you  families who have a child or a loved one who is Disabled. They can tell you about some nearby clinics, camps and chapter groups so that you can find the help you need. The also can tell you how to prevent it, while your newly pregnant. There are many events that you can sign up to volunteer with.

Now for a different Topic

2. Advertisements

1*  I have seen many advertisements and movie promotions. I can list one  commercial I have found that absolutely grosses me out. Introducing the Squatty Potty. By using this product, which step stool that fits under a toilet. The position you sit helps you release ... well you get the picture. They have a website:
http://www.squattypotty.com/unicorn-c/
They even have a Youtube Channel. Im just posting the link because the The thumbnail picture is a bit embarrassing.
Squatty Potty :)
I can't determine who their target audience would be. I think they are either using a Hidden Fear Technique or an Irritation Technique. I don't think I would get this product because of the weirdness of the commercial. I understand its made for health benefits and thats very important, but really? Their slogan is "The Stools for Better Stools". GROSS!! The only reason I heard about this is a youtube vlogger I watch everyday, was hired to be on the commercial. They since cut out his part. The only part I think is fun about this is the prince. They have kind of ruined Unicorns for me.

2*  I have found myself watching more and more of the Gerber Chew Commercials. I love the commercials with babies sitting in a "class". and they are putting bowls on their heads and food smudged on their faces. Its so cute. Their Target Audience would have to be New parents or grandparents for baby sitting.
They have a channel:Gerber. I think they are using emotional branding, or Stereotyping. Its all very cute either way.

Media Blog #2

I have multiple sites. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat I may be starting a youtube channel soon. I use Social Media for different reasons, not just for fun anymore. Twitter is to keep up with friends of mine who have youtube channels, celebs and anyone who doesn't have facebook.
3 people that I follow the most is Grimsikk, He is my best friend ever. We grew up together, and talk a lot now. He has a lets play channel on youtube. My favorite tweets he has are when he posts a video or when he welcomes a new member of the Grimsikk family he calls the grimlins.
Next I follow several Daily Vloggers. I like seeing peoples happiest moments. Finding out the family is expecting a baby after years of infertility is amazing. Twitter is their live feed and the best way to connect with them. My favorite tweets they do are when a mother is having contractions or going into labor.
I also now follow movie directors and casting directors. If they post general advice I want to know. I also look for any webinars they advertise so I can send in questions for them to answer. I follow lots of people, If I recognize a friend, from school or work, I will follow them.

I know that there are ways to get money on the internet, but I didn't know it was so easy until I read it. I have heard of Monetizing a youtube channel. I heard it would take a long time to make money from ads. I didn't know that you could get money from posting a blog. I have seen youtube videos about making money online, but they said you had to make an online stocks or make an eBay account to sell things. Finding jobs is hard even if the economy is doing well. For some reason or another there is always a reason for not getting a job. For example, I have been denied even being considered for a interview because Im in a wheelchair. I have heard Im too dirty or I'm a danger to animals. Even being in college getting an important degree doesn't help. So knowing what I know now, I am very interested in finding a way to make a little pocket money. I may not NEED money now but It still is good to have.
This kind of video may sound and look good, saying its all free, but eventually it will probably hurt you instead of help you. This is just all my view. If you have ever made money from these methods im happy for you but its not for me.

First Class Blog

HI EVERYONE

Im Rose Taylor and this is my first time Blogging. Im taking Media & Society course in college and  our class is starting our own blogs. Any feedback would be helpful. I should probably tell you a bit about myself.

Im 23 and I have Spina Bifida, Myelomeningocele is the form worst form and I got it. I have been in a wheelchair since I was 4 years old. I have had 16 surgeries so far and 10 of them were brain surgeries. Im a Christian and love volunteering in my church, I sometimes get to run our camera that we use to stream live. I also volunteer in a live theater downtown. I love theater, I love every job I get to do. Acting is my passion, but I'm blessed that I get to work behind the scenes. Theater arts has been my passion since I was little. I also have played my cello since I was 3, but I haven't found a passion for it anymore. Its more of a hobby to me now. I used to play in orchestras. I am at LBCC doing my Communications degree. I like doing speeches and Im very comfortable in front of large groups. We have 2 cats,  Spooky and Marmalade, both females. My first cat Keiko lived to be 21. I love all animals, even snakes and bugs. My favorite Video game is Destiny: Taken king.

After watching Second Skin, I felt like I just went for a marathon. Everyone explaining how much they play, what character they play and why they play so much, made my brain scramble and I felt stressed. I wanted to go to those gamers and tell them they are too addicted and they needed a long break, so that they would be wither families and real long time friends. I love video games for my own reasons but I will never choose to do video games over working and being with my family. God is my First Priority. Without him I wouldn't be here, or have such an amazing job and family.

By the way, I mentioned what disability I have, Im not embarrassed by it. If anyone has questions, please ask. I will answer what I can.

Thanks for reading,
Rose <3
